چکیده

For accurate dose assessment due to radon progeny inhalation, its size distribution is one of the most important physical parameters from the viewpoint of the dosimetric approach. A typical size distribution of the radon progeny is bimodal with unattached and attached fraction. For measuring the activity-weighted size distribution of unattached fraction, a new GSA consisted of four fine stainless steel screens with 135, 200, 400, 635-mesh and a backup filter was proposed. As the results of numerical simulation for this GSA, typically bimodal size distributions could be well reconstructed, as compared with original size distributions assumed. The calculated median diameter showed good agreement between 0.7 nm and 150 nm. The GSA performance was experimentally verified at radon/aerosol chamber experiments. The carnauba wax aerosols generated by vaporization and condensation method were used as a carrier. When the carrier aerosols were inserted into the chamber, the new GSA system caught clearly two peaks of unattached and attached fractions. The smaller peak of unattached fraction was found to be around 1 nm and its shape was very sharp like mono-disperse particles.

Measurements of indoor radon, thoron and their progeny in Farrukhabad city of Uttar Pradesh, India

Background: More than 50% of the total dose received by human beings from all sources of radiation (both from natural and manmade) comes from radon and its progeny which is responsible for lung cancer in many cases. Materials and Methods: In the present study, the measurements have been carried out by using twin chamber dosimeter cups with LR-115 type-II detectors. The value of track ...

Concentration of radon, thoron and their progeny levels in different types of floorings, walls, rooms and building materials

Background: Radon, thoron and their progenies are the most important contributions to human exposure from natural sources. Radon exists in soil gas, building materials, Indoor atmosphere etc. Among all the natural sources of radiation dose to human beings, inhalation of radon contributes a lot. The work presented here emphasizes the long term measurements of radon, thoron and their proge...

Calculating CR-39 Response to Radon in Water Using Monte Carlo Simulation

Introduction CR-39 detectors are widely used for Radon and progeny measurement in the air. In this paper, using the Monte Carlo simulation, the possibility of using the CR-39 for direct measurement of Radon and progeny in water is investigated. Materials and Methods Assuming the random position and angle of alpha particle emitted by Radon and progeny, alpha energy and angular spectrum that arri...
